Position Summary

The Director of Health Care is responsible to oversee and coordinate the care and services of residents, promote the effective utilization and monitoring of health care resources, and lead a multidisciplinary team to achieve desired clinical, emotional and wellness outcomes in accordance with Federal, State, local, company standards and established policies and procedures and as may be directed by the Executive Director.

The Director ensures Quality Delivery of resident care through the promotion of systems utilizing Quality Improvement Practices. The Director is responsible for providing input into the Budget and monitoring its effective implementation through regular reporting and monitoring of resources. The Director develops staff plans which effectively recruit,! allocate, retain, develop and mentors staff to established st! andards of performance while building a strong rapport with those we serve and their families.

The ultimate goal of quality resident care is to enable each resident, where possible, to function at the highest level, to attain a stage of independence, or to at least prevent regression. An active approach to resident care will be taken and not just passive maintenance.

Establish and monitors goals and expectations for the Assisted Living and Memory Care departments.

Plan, direct, and evaluate the programs, activities and schedules of the Assisted Living and Memory Care departments in compliance with all applicable rules, regulations, guidelines and company practices.

Conduct staff supervisory responsibilities to include selection, hiring, orientation, training, scheduling, coaching, monitoring, counseling, discipline and t! erminations.

Administer Employee Policies and Procedures. Develop, maintain and periodically update written policies and procedures and job descriptions. Orient staff and train on policies and procedures.

Develop departmental budgets, re-forecasts and staffing plans.

Assist in the administration of the Property/Risk Management Procedure Plans.

Make reports and recommendations to the Executive Director as necessary or required concerning the operation of the departments.

Develop, implement and monitor the Masterpiece Living, Quality Improvement, Safety, Infection, Disaster and Environmental Control Programs in concert with company and state standards and provide appropriate plans of action to correct any identified deficiencies.

Participates and oversees the admission and on-going resident assessment and care planning process. !

Coordinate and/or conduct resident care plan confe! rences with families/sponsors. Actively communicate and work with families, resident and staff to resolve complaints and grievances. Updates residents and families when appropriate to assist in safe, respectful and appropriate transitions to other care settings, as necessary. Coordinate feedback and communication with resident/family and staff to ensure safety and appropriate level of care.

Act as Resident liaison and advocate to the Executive Director.

Act as Resident/Administrative advocate for development of and participation in Residents Council for the Assisted Living and Memory Care Setting.

Develop methods for coordination of the departments services with other departments and outside agencies and health professionals to ensure the continuity of the residents' total regimen of care. Coordinate with other staff members in scheduling events and use of facilities.

Oversees compli! ance with established company and state mandated practices for documentation. Monitors and Coaches staff for improved performance.

Oversee surveys and inspections made by government agencies.

Complete appropriate forms, reports, evaluations, and studies. Monitors and maintains documentation compliance in all areas to include medication system, MARs, incidents, resident clinical information, QA, Safety and required reports.

Minimum Job Qualifications

Level of Education
Bachelors Degree
Technical or Professional License(s)/Certification(s)
Assisted Living Administrator License and/or other License as required by the state
Registered Nurse preferred
CPR
Level of Experience
At least 3yrs progressively responsible work experience in the senior living industry or related field.
General Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Ability to read and write, follow written and oral instructions, and communicate effectively in English. Ability to work with the elderly in a courteous and friendly manner, demonstrating patience and compassion. Ability to perform duties with consideration for residents rights at all times and demonstrate integri! ty and discretion in the care of residents and in handling their health information. Leadership and motivational skills.
Technical Skills
Knowledge of medical/nursing practices and procedures, laws, regulations and guidelines pertaining to senior living care. Experience with clinical and diagnostic procedures. Ability to plan, organize, develop, implement, interpret, and manage programs, goals, objectives, policies, procedures, and resources necessary to provide quality of care.

Inside-Outside Work Contacts

Primary contacts are with reporting staff, other managerial employees, and residents.

Supervision

The position is expected to perform independently and exercise good judgment. The position supervises, directs, and reviews the work of other employees, conducts performance appraisals, and takes disciplinary action.

Physical/Environmental Demands

On a daily basis, throughout the workday: Must be capable of sitting, standing, walking, climbing stairs, reac! hing, turning, bending, stooping, crouching and kneeling, reaching over the head, grasping with both hands, and fine manipulation. Must physically be able to lift up to 25 pounds unassisted. Must physically be able to carry, transfer, push and pull, and reposition residents with assistance or using appropriate equipment. Must have normal eyesight or use corrective lenses. Must have three-dimensional vision and ability to judge distances and spatial relationships so as to see objects where and as they actually are. Must be able to recognize colors. Must be able to hear and distinguish between normal tones and be able to perceive the nature of sounds. Must be able to exchange ideas by means of the spoken word as well as engage in activities to convey detailed or spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, and/or quickly. Must have normal sense of touch and smell.
Work Environment
Works in well-lighted, well ventilated building. Must be able to tolerate oc! casional exposure to dust, fumes, odors, water, etc., as well as some noise. When outside, must be able to tolerate exposure to weather, fluctuations in temperature (hot, cold), wet and/or humid conditions. Subject to frequent interruptions. Subject to hostile or emotionally upset individuals. Must be willing to work, when necessary, beyond normal working hours and on weekends, as well as in other positions as necessary.
Risk/Safety
The position requires exposure to some risk to physical and/or mental health and safety (i.e., physical assault, communicable disease, etc).

Exposure Classification
Work related tasks assigned to this position involve the potential exposure as classified in Category I by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
