Southern Nuclear Operating Company (SNC), headquartered in Birmingham, AL, operates Southern Company's six nuclear reactors at three locations in Georgia and Alabama: two reactors at Plant Vogtle, near Waynesboro, GA; two reactors at Plant ! Hatch, near Baxley, GA; and two reactors at Plant Farley, near! Dothan, AL. In addition, construction activities are underway for two new reactors at our Plant Vogtle location.
We currently have an opportunity located at our corporate headquarters in Birmingham, AL for a Risk Informed Engineering - Fire Safety Analysis Supervisor. This position will function within our Risk Informed Engineering department.
Risk Informed Engineering - Fire Safety Analysis Supervisor (Corporate)
Summary of Position Duties:
The position is responsible for executing supervisory duties for the Fire Safety Analysis (FSA) group in the Risk Informed Engineering (RIE) Department. The FSA group is responsible for executing the entire GOSP model for the Fire Safe Shutdown and Fire PRA models, including developing and maintaining state-of-the-art probabilistic and deterministic models for all operating units. The group and this Supervisor are also responsible for oversight of the Vogtle 3&4 Fire Safe Shutdown program development. T! his position manages the performance of engineering products related to the above activities, as well as ensuring that a state of the art configuration control is developed and maintained for the prescriptive and probabilistic fire models and supporting analyses. This position will be actively engaged with industry peers to be influential within the industry in development of solutions to generic technical issues as they relate to the fleet's fire safe shutdown and fire PRA models. This position will supervise and manage the performance of approximately 7 employees.
This supervisor will execute SNC's industry leading vision of an integrated fire safety analysis group whose members analyze and evaluate post fire safe shutdown capability and regulatory compliance using both traditional prescriptive methods (e.g., Appendix R) and risk-informed techniques (e.g., fire PRA and NFPA 805).
Supervisor Responsibilities include:
Assisting the Risk Modeling! Manger in providing governance and oversight of fleet Fire Safe Shutdo! wn and Fire PRA models.
Executing supervisory duties including coaching, performance reviews, and work assignment for the Fire Safety Group.
Providing oversight, direction, and mentoring in performing Fire Safe Shutdown Analysis including circuit analysis.
Interpreting and ensuring compliance with fire protection regulatory requirements, policies and standards, including 10CFR50.48 and NFPA 805.
Providing technical assistance to resolve fire protection safe shutdown issues.
Supervision and oversight of technical tasks such as engineering calculations and analyses and fire event safe shutdown modeling including risk-informed methods.
Reviewing and applying technical reports.
Monitoring and influencing industry activities in the Fire Safe Shutdown and Fire PRA areas.
Ensuring readiness and providing support/assistance for audits and inspections.
Working closely with the Fire Protection Program personnel to ensure that the underlying assumpt! ions/assertions used and features relied upon in the fire safe shutdown strategy (e.g., penetration seal and fire barrier integrity, fire detection/suppression reliability, etc.) are valid and maintained.
Working closely with Operations to ensure that credited operator actions are feasible and reliable and to identify opportunities for improving the reliability of such actions, and where practical eliminating the need such operator actions.
Providing input to and implement policies and procedures.
Travel to the plant sites and industry activities in support of SNC objectives.
Education
B.S. in Engineering from an ABET accredited college/university or a P. E. license is required
5 years nuclear power plant experience is preferred.
Job Experience:
2 years supervisory, project management, or similar leadership experience is required.
Working knowledge of the Fire Safe Shutdown and/or Fire PRA preferred
Working knowledge of de! sign configuration controls and engineering processes desired.
Expe! rience in design, licensing, hazards analysis or plant engineering is desired.
