A major financial services company, providing insurance and retirement solutions, seeks a Chief Counsel to lead the law and compliance group sup! porting its distribution business. This group distributes insurance and investment products through a national retail and wholesale network of independent brokers, agents and other financial services companies. Candidates for the position should have a minimum of 10 years of experience focused heavily on legal and compliance issues related to the operation of a registered broker dealer. It’s also important to have experience managing issues related to distributing financial products through retail and wholesale channels.
The successful candidate will be responsible for a large group of legal and compliance professionals so experience managing and directing other professionals, including other lawyers is necessary. Along with management responsibilities, the person in this role will handle regulatory, commercial and investigative issues related to broker dealers. The Chief Counsel will work closely with the head of the business group and other business clients thr! oughout the organization as a key member of the management tea! m and as the main point of contact for all group legal and compliance issues. The successful candidate must be: an excellent communicator; commercially minded; willing to make tough management decisions; able to gain the trust and confidence of senior management; a proactive leader; and able to provide business clients throughout the organization with strategic advice and consultation.
