Essential Functions:
Performs pre-award and post-award grants management administration functions working closely with academic leaders, faculty and staff to create an environment and processes that facilitate the Universityâs continued commitment to research excellence.
Works closely with the Director of Health Systems Grants Administration and Development, principal investigators, project directors, departmental colleagues and central administration staff, as well as representatives of federal, state, and private funding agencies; acts as liaison between sponsors, faculty and departmental administrators; provides assistance in the preparation, completion and review of numerous grant proposals; interprets grant and contract requirements, as well as funding agency guidelines with investigators, management and staff; reviews contracts for compliance with applicable regulatio! ns prior to submission to the University Attorney's office; de! velops proposal budgets and supporting documentation; reviews proposals for accuracy and conformity; notifies investigators and Director of possible errors or omissions; conducts pre-award risk management; submits proposals in a timely manner; identifies potential funding sources; maintains detailed database and files; prepares reports using a PC; provides training to faculty and staff; acts as resource for grant post-award management issues; acquires and disseminates revised budgets, work scopes, and protocols; reviews terms of awards and evaluates grants for accuracy and completeness; works with awarding agencies to resolve issues; implements related policies and procedures; works with incoming faculty to transfer grants and contracts; assists with budget management; processes approval requests; acquires project close-out documents; meets with departmental grants management staff to ensure compliance with applicable policies; ensures compliance with all applicable federal! , state and university regulations for research administration to include OMB Circulars, FAR/DFARS, IRB, IACUC, RCR, FCOL and export control; submits grants electronically using Grants.gov, eRA Commons, eHandbooks and Fastlane; acts as liaison with faculty and staff and internal and external offices and interacts in a professional manner; participates in delivery of grant management workshops; attends national and regional meetings, which may require overnight stays; ensures timely submission of proposals which may require working evenings and/or weekends; may assign duties to student works and clerical staff; regular and prompt attendance; ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required; and related duties as required.
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelorâs degree from an accredited institution as approved and accepted by the University of South Alabama and four years of progressively responsible experience in research administration or sponsor! ed programs administration with a sponsoring or recipient organization;! or an associateâs degree from an accredited institution as approved and accepted by the University of South Alabama and six years of progressively responsible experience in research administration or sponsored programs administration with a sponsoring or recipient organization; or eight years of progressively responsible experience in research administration or sponsored programs administration with a sponsoring or recipient organization. Certification as a Certified Research Administrator is highly preferred.
Excellent communication and organizational skills are required. Excellent computer skills, to include knowledge of Microsoft products, are required.
