Neighborhood Housing Services of Birmingham (NHSB) has a rich 40 year history of fulfilling the housing needs of low-to-moderate incom! e families in the Birmingham metropolitan area. NHSB is the state's only NeighborWorks America certified Homeownership Center. Additionally, the organization has recently grown its services in multi-family and single family housing development. The Opportunity
NHSB's Homeownership Center has a strong reputation for mission focused, quality service delivery. The new Homeownership Center Manager will provide leadership to sustain this momentum as the Center expands into new geographic areas. In addition to providing homebuyers with the critical skills, knowledge and confidence to buy and maintain a home, the NHSB Homeownership Center is also a leader in the provision of financial education, credit counseling, and foreclosure prevention counseling. The Homeownership Center Manager will supervise a dedicated! staff that currently includes 2.5 FTE housing counselors. The! Homeownership Center Manager reports directly to the Executive Director.
The Responsibilities
Design and implement programs that effectively recruit, orient and support prospective low-to-moderate income homeowners through the home purchase and home retention process.
Work to develop systems and partners within the community which extend services to more residents
Able to provide homebuyer education, post-purchase education and financial education workshops and counseling to clients as needed, in addition to supervising counselors in providing those services.
Work with the staff team to continuously improve and enhance the educational curriculum.
Conduct periodic quality reviews of the department's operations to ensure that the Homeownership Center delivers high quality customer service and adheres to the standards set forth in the National Industry Standards for Homeownership Education and Counseling, as well as comply! ing with funder requirements (HUD, NeighborWorks America).
Develop and implement procedures to maintain the security and confidentiality of all client records.
Provide a professional example that motivates the housing counseling team to excel at the delivery of quality services. Create an environment that encourages ongoing professional development and improvement.
Maintain constant communication with housing counseling staff to identify and resolve daily challenges.
Establish an annual departmental workplan and schedule of workshops and events, together with the staff team.
Guide and encourage the housing counseling team in the achievement of annual workplan goals. Conduct timely staff performance evaluations, establish individual performance goals and provide the feedback and support to accomplish those goals.
Manage upgrades to software tracking and reporting systems and ensure staff are trained and fully utilizing sy! stems.
Initiate and organize public events as needed to accomp! lish the Homeownership Center's goals.
Identify quality real estate professional partners and nurture strategic relationships with realtors, lenders, inspectors, attorneys, etc. who support the organization's mission.
Serve as a member of the organization's senior leadership, contributing to overall strategic direction and planning as needed. Represent the organization as a whole publicly as needed.
The Candidate
Minimum Required Qualifications
¨ Bachelor's degree
¨ Certifications in homebuyer education and foreclosure prevention.
¨ Previous successful supervisory experience. Ability to assist staff with establishing goals and achieving objectives.
¨ Experience with Counselor Max or an equivalent homebuyer tracking management information system.
¨ Knowledgable of HUD Housing Counseling standards and audit requirements.
¨ Experience meeting outcome reporting deadlines.
¨! Proficient with the Microsoft Office software suite.
¨ Ability to effectively communicate and work with individuals from diverse backgrounds and experiences.
¨ Ability to provide adult education workshops.
¨ Ability to effectively present information to clients, community partners, and potential partners.
Preferred Qualifications
¨ Certifications from NeighborWorks America in homebuyer education and foreclosure prevention.
¨ Experience with CounselorMax.
¨ Experience with reporting and delivering services for the National Foreclosure Mitigation Counseling Program.
¨ Experience managing a homebuyer education department and housing counseling staff within a HUD certified housing counseling agency.
¨ Prior mortgage lending experience a plus.
¨ At least three years of supervisory experience.
¨ Excellent customer service and public representation skills.
¨ Demo! nstrated skill in organizing time and prioritizing work load.
