JOB FUNCTION: This position reports directly to a Senior Corporate Counsel and will provide legal support to the TESS (Technology and Support Services), Vendor Management, and HR! areas of BBVA Compass. This position will require the ability to work with various regulations and banking laws and to coordinate with internal attorneys, lines of business, compliance personnel, and external vendors to address bank operational issues, HR concerns, and negotiate contracts.
REGULAR DUTIES: Draft, review, and edit legal documents and materialsMonitor and stay current on regulations and laws that impact bank operationsProvides legal services and counsel to clients in relation to laws and regulations in the client's line of businessProduce clear and concise written materials that can be submitted to the customerIdentify and analyze more complex or novel matters; develop conclusions, make recommendations, and provide reliable adviceFormulate and carry out research and investigative strategies.Advise clients on risks in one or more assigned departments or units of the organizationWork with outside counsel to develop agreements, strategies, briefs, and! communications; supervise outside counsel work.Work directly ! with business clients and develop an understanding of business unit needs, products, and projects.Contribute advice and counsel on policy and procedures.Identify the level and type of outside legal assistance needed; assess the cost of outside legal services and supervise outside counsel to ensure that the fees charged are reasonable.
REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Four year college degree (excellent academic credentials)Strong verbal and written communication skills.Juris Doctorate degree (excellent academic credentials) from an accredited law school; State Bar certification3+ years legal experience with a law firm with experience working with contracts and other complex legal documents in a commercial law practice.
