The Director of Live Games is responsible for steering, guiding and managing a set of producers and for ensuring the long-term business success of the games under his/her supervision. He/ she provides the key link and interface between the Chief Games Officer ! (CGO; focus on delivering quarterly P&L performance) and the g! ame producers (focus on sustainably building and maintaining fun, engaging and player-centric games), by translating clear revenue targets into feasible quarterly product road map steps for producers and helping them to prioritize and develop the right features that hit the right balance between 'great fun' and 'great monetization'. Job responsibilities:
Lead a variety of games teams varying in size
Provide key interface between the producers and CGO on an ongoing basis:
Assist the CGO with the preparation of annual and quarterly revenue and cost plans (budgets)
Assume full responsibility for quarterly and annual P&L for games in internal game cluster
Assist producers in maintaining the right balance between 'great fun' and 'great monetization'
Support the producers to focus on the long term decisions which have a large financial impact as well as to make quick day-to-day revenue fixes of limited long-term positive impact
Oversee translation of f! inancial budgets and targets into actionable annual and quarterly product road maps
Assist the CGO with the preparation of annual and quarterly revenue and cost plans (budgets)
Translate the annual and quarterly revenue and cost budgets which have already been approved into quarterly and annual road maps for each game
Help producers prioritize ideas for features on the quarterly and annual road maps by judging their value to Bigpoint based on their revenue potential and effort/cost to implement
Ensure that these road maps are widely shared with supporting functions in the company, i.e. with creative/product marketing leads, responsible service managers in tech area, marketing
Guarantee a sufficient international orientation of game teams (i.e. outside of DACH) in ongoing game management
Work with the CGO to ensure that the requirements of international markets are sufficiently heard and reflected in quarterly and annual road maps
Conduct regular ! life cycle analysis of games in remit (i.e. in own game cluster)
Co! nduct quarterly life cycle analysis of each game in remit using analysis framework given by strategy department
Utilize KPI performance and profitability analysis, user behavior and usage trends to predict game life cycle stage
Present recommendation of how to proceed to CGO/Games Board
If necessary, present recommendations to Product Board
Readiness to make 'tough calls' (i.e. to move a game to maintenance) when it is at the end of its life cycle
Make game balancing decisions based on support and recommendations from pricing function
Open to receiving recommendations from the Luxembourg-based pricing team on how to improve game balancing and pricing (virtual currency: virtual goods)
Work with producer to decide how to implement recommendations in each game
Oversee, guide and manage producers of live games with a strong focus on sustainable business success
Oversee the live game teams based on updates from respective producers
Supervi! se producers in leading their teams; mentor and help them model appropriate leadership behavior
Provide support and resolution in conflict situations; in cross-functional conflicts (e.g. prioritization of resources), work with counterpart on same level to make decisions without escalating the issue to Chief Games Officer Your skills:
Bachelor's degree in related field is required; MBA or Master's degree is preferable
Minimum five years' experience managing multifunctional teams, thereof ideally: minimum three years as a producer with major label/studio/gaming company
A broad understanding of browser games and related processes is beneficial; however, similar experience in other business fields is also considered favorable
Maintain a close, professional, pragmatic and solution-oriented working relationship with all relevant stakeholders at all times
Ensure game teams work on the right issues: demonstrate excellent awareness of fast-paced, day-t! o-day nature of gaming activities (e.g. ongoing events), but help teams! prioritize by maintaining a mid-to-long term view and making decisions from a 'most value to Bigpoint as a company' perspective
Apply positive performance pressure to producers to continually produce events and focus on maximizing user fun and engagement while providing subtle guidance to consider monetization KPIs
Empower decision-making and issue resolution at the lowest possible point in the organization and demonstrate effective, pragmatic decision-making behavior with as few occasions of escalation to next level as possible
Critically judge and provide feedback on individual performance of direct reports based on KPIs and game development progress, e.g. adherence to milestones and exhibited management skills
Actively sponsor and promote key talent to become future management/leaders at Bigpoint (e.g. producers, team lead)
Strong familiarity with game economics and understanding of business cases
Strong understanding of profit and loss statement! s (P&Ls)
Ability to identify actions to enable producers to deliver against the agreed-up
