Director/Manager of Litigation Support and E-Discovery Services Reports to Chief Information Officer Summary: Responsible for al! l aspects of building and maintaining firm-wide litigation support systems and practices, including vendor management, selection and implementation of litigation support and E-discovery technologies, creation and implementation of effective practice support policies, procedures, oversight and management of Practice Support personnel. Promote departments effectiveness, including assessing team and client needs; organizing and directing workflow; training, coaching and motivating team. Ensure client services and satisfactions are attained in all relevant areas of the position. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSClient Service1. Ensure that internal and external clients receive exemplary, seamless support in all aspects of job position.2. Proactively communicate with internal and external clients to ensure litigation support needs are met.3. Regularly review client service procedures and standards related to position, identify and implement enhancements to client service.Case and Process Mana! gement1. Establish and implement technology, recommended pract! ices and systems that are consistent across offices to effectively support the litigation practice, and are in line with the business goals of the firm. 2. Ensure the litigation practice is using appropriate, innovative and cost effective technologies to manage discovery process. 3. Develop and implement strategic plan for providing effective case management services to the Firms clients; establish and monitor the roles of attorneys, paralegals and litigation practice support personnel in the delivery of planning, budgeting, collecting and reporting tools. 4. Lead post-project analysis to discover workflow inefficiencies and obstacles, and identifies, designs, and applies quality control processes and improvements for the discovery process.5. Manage the development and maintenance of all Practice Support documentation relating to internal processes, workflow, and support information. 6. Provide appropriate e-discovery and technology consulting services to clients, attorneys! , paralegals and support staff. 7. Assist with the development and delivery of training to litigation case teams on effective document review protocol utilizing both Firm and vendor technology etc.8. Provide firm-wide technical assistance for Concordance, FYI, Opticon, MS Access, CaseMap, Sanction, LiveNote, various Online Review Tools, and other litigation software.9. Communicate, market, and promote use of litigation technology, practice support services and products supported by the Firm. Team Management1. Evaluate and initiate department structure and provide role clarification, setting performance standards and implementing accountabilities.2. Participate in hiring decisions, including assisting with preparation of job postings/descriptions, interviews, and review of resumes.3. Responsible for coordinating assignments and timely completion of tasks in order to implement appropriate technology solutions.4. Monitor team members workload, overtime, and adjusts resources a! s necessary.5. Review time notes for Practice Support personnel to ensu! re timeliness and quality.6. Responsible for evaluation process including identification and implementation of development goals, etc.7. Coordinate regular firm-wide meetings with litigation practice support personnel.Vendor Management 1. Develop standards and procedures for negotiating and interacting with vendors for outsourcing litigation projects.2. Develop and maintain a group of standard services and vendors that can support firm-wide litigation cases.3. Work with vendors on negotiation of contracts in conjunction with the Preferred Vendor initiative and maintain list of preferred vendors for outsourcing of litigation projects.4. Coordinate, schedule, and participate in demonstrations of appropriate products and/or services. 5. Develop policies and procedures for retention of discovery vendors; evaluate statistics on vendor usage to determine and implement strategy.Administrative Work with the firm-wide IT trainers on training attorneys, paralegals and legal staff on ! the use of computer technology in case management, firms technology tools and e-discovery. Prepare weekly and monthly departmental reports regarding financial and team management 2. Assist with preparation and management of annual budgets.3. Ensure Issue Logs are created for every case and that issues are resolved in a time efficient manner4. Follow Firm change management policies and procedures when introducing changes to the environment.5. Travel periodically to other offices within the Firm to present training seminars on the use of litigation support tools.6. Participate on appropriate committees, tasks forces, and teams.7. Participate in appropriate industry organizations and stay current with developments in litigation support technology.Professional Development1. Remain current in technology developments in the legal industry.2. Ensure expertise in relevant technology; proactively use most current technology to further teamwork, client service, and efficiency. 3. Men! tor and educate team members on current industry technology and issues.! Confidentiality Ensure compliance with the Firm's Confidentiality Policy, including safeguarding confidential and personal information, and reporting any suspected breach appropriately and immediately.Safety PracticesAdhere to the Firms General Safety Practices and any unique safety practices for department and building. QUALIFICATIONSEducation and Experience1. Bachelors degree required2. Minimum of 6 years experience in the field, with at least 3 years in a management role. Minimum 2 years large law firm experience required. Experience working across multiple offices and countries is strongly preferred.3. Demonstrated knowledge of Electronic Discovery issues and how they affect the litigation process.4. Familiarity with computer hardware, software, and network technologies.5. Demonstrated excellence in analysis, documentation, and presentation tools required.6. Excellent skills in critical thinking and analysis, meeting facilit! ation, verbal and written communications, and interpersonal interactions.7. Ability to travel to other offices, as needed.Teamwork and Applied Skills1. Ability to analyze needs and to determine priorities based on business objectives.2. Thorough understanding of Ediscovery issues impact on discovery data management lifecycle6. Understanding of hardware needs for Litigation Support7.
